False Environmental Solutions and Power Grabs

We Cannot Let Corporations and Corrupt Officials Exploit Environmental Issues

In the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), Biden expanded a tax credit previously expanded by Trump, which now gives industrial developers billions of dollars in credits for giant pipelines to transport carbon waste from ethanol plants to deep-well injection sites.  Biden claims these carbon pipelines will reduce carbon emissions, but they will actually increase emissions. Much of the carbon will be injected into wells to extract more oil. Carbon pipelines also threaten the property rights of farmers across the Midwest.

Kennedy has long criticized these kinds of corporate boondoggles that serve only to enrich billionaires and subsidize big industries.
The carbon pipeline scam, unfortunately, fits a pattern that many Americans now recognize: powerful vested interests have hijacked environmental issues, especially climate change, to shift wealth upward and undermine our democratic rights and freedoms.

Kennedy believes that climate change is a serious problem, but as President he will never allow big corporations and government authorities to use climate change as an excuse for profit-making schemes and power grabs. Nor will he insist that all Americans agree about climate change.

Instead, Kennedy’s environmental plan will help and empower everyday Americans while also reducing greenhouse-gas emissions. His regenerative farming policies will assist small farmers in producing healthy food for the American people, while also sequestering carbon in soils and gradually replacing the industrial food systems that are responsible for one-third of global greenhouse-gas emissions.

Protecting our landscapes, our waterways, and our wildlife will be good for the climate. Ending deforestation will draw down carbon and help regulate the water cycle, which will have a positive effect on the climate. Lowering subsidies for fossil fuels will reduce pollution, improve human health, and bring down emissions. Cutting plastic waste will substantially reduce demand for oil and natural gas, and improve the health of the oceans, which are integral to the Earth’s climate system.

These are things that all Americans, regardless of political affiliation, can benefit from and agree on.
