RFK Jr. Praises Texas In Battle With Biden Over Border

The Hill reports: Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. on Thursday backed Texas in its ongoing battle with the federal government over border authority, criticizing the Biden administration for its handling of the U.S. southern border. “Texas is right. Biden’s failure to secure the border leaves states no choice but to take matters into their own hands,” Kennedy wrote in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter. “As President, I will end this humanitarian crisis once and for all. I will secure the border and destroy the business model of the drug cartels. A country without borders is not a country at all.” Read the full article here. I’m inspired by how enthusiastic people are to collect signatures, create new political parties, and rally for real change,” Kennedy said in a statement Tuesday evening during the end of the New Hampshire primary. “This kind of energy is what will get us onto the ballot in every state and fuel our voter registration and GOTV operation as we head toward Election Day,” he said. The Un-American Disenfranchisement of RFK Jr. Voters

The Hill reports: Every election cycle, we hear Democrats and Republicans complaining about “disenfranchised voters.” We have been told incessantly for years and decades that “every voter should be heard.” That is correct. Except, it seems, when those votes may benefit a populist independent candidate, who, counterintuitively, is gaining in popularity while being ignored or smeared by much of the mainstream media, as well as the two major political parties. That candidate being Robert F. Kennedy Jr. It is fair to say that millions of Americans now support Kennedy for president. Just on X — formerly Twitter — he has 2.6 million followers and growing. Logic and basic math tell us his support would be much higher than those willing to take the time to sign up for X. Do those voters — from every political ideology, color, faith and sexual orientation — have the right to be heard? Should they be allowed to vote for the candidate of their choice? Fox News reports: Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. caught some waves with surfing legend Kelly Slater for his birthday while campaigning in Hawaii. Kennedy posted the video of him surfing with Slater, and surf rock playing in the background on X, formerly Twitter. "Best birthday present ever: Catching waves with 11-time world surf champion [Slater] on North Shore, Pua’ena Point," Kennedy wrote on Wednesday. Kennedy has been making his rounds throughout the country and in the media as he has pushed forward with his campaign and has garnered support from several celebrities. Rock and roll legend Eric Clapton raised a whopping $2.2 million for Kennedy at a Los Angeles fundraiser in September, his campaign said. Slater is one of several high-profile athletes who have also endorsed Kennedy in his independent bid for president. Read the full article here. Hundreds Turn Out in Kaneohe To Support RFK Jr.’s Bid for Presidency

Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports: Hundreds of people gathered Thursday at the Ko‘olau Ballrooms in Kaneohe to support Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.’s long-shot bid as an independent to become America’s next president. On Thursday, Kennedy’s more than hour-long speech began with a presentation of data from two months ago that showed only 18% of Americans under the age of 35 are proud of their country. “My primary job as president is to reinstill hope in that generation and pride in our country,” he said to a cheering crowd. Thursday’s rally started with videos about Kennedy’s background, including compilation clips from his other rallies around the country and images of him surfing in Hawaii. They were followed by Peter Kater, two-time Grammy-winning pianist, performing three songs. Kamaile Puaoi and her son performed an oli chant, and Elijah McShane performed a prayer and a speech to support Kennedy in bringing “his mana to Hawaii.” Sheldon Doney, a Pearl City resident, attended the rally with his wife while both wore “Hawaii for Kennedy” pins on their shirts. “We are looking for leaders that are outspoken, that aren’t calling for coercion,” Doney said. “We really value his take on civil liberties and human rights.” Read the full article here. RFK Jr. Sees an Opening as More Black Voters Sour on Biden

Politico reports: A growing number of Black voters are weighing options for 2024 other than the two major-party candidates — a serious problem for Joe Biden’s reelection campaign. Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. is trying to seize on that opening. The third-party presidential candidate — who recently defended his father’s decision to authorize the surveillance of Martin Luther King Jr. in the 1960s — spent last weekend campaigning in the heavily Black city of Atlanta. As African American leaders commemorated the civil rights icon at the King Center’s annual festivities, Kennedy hosted his own events to pitch himself to Black voters, playing up the Kennedy family’s reputation as allies of the Black community. Kennedy’s ability to sell himself to Black voters could be a key factor in 2024. In Georgia, Black voters make up about a quarter of the electorate and were critical to Biden’s winning coalition in a state decided by less than 12,000 votes. Kennedy said Atlanta was an “obvious” place to campaign over Martin Luther King Jr. weekend. He also hosted a fundraiser and a 200-person rally at a concert venue, on the other side of I-75 from King’s spiritual home, Ebenezer Baptist Church. He was explicit in his pitch: A vote for him would be a continuation of his father and uncle’s legacy when it came to issues like civil rights. Read the full article here. For Young Atlantans, This May Be the Year for RFK Jr.

Atlanta Civic Circle reports: The dissonance between what President Joe Biden’s administration says about the state of the economy and what Gerig is experiencing is a major reason that he attended Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s rally at the Tabernacle in downtown Atlanta on Jan. 14. Kennedy is running for president as an independent in the upcoming election. “We’re always presented with two buttons to push our entire life. Being here feels like maybe there’s a third button. Maybe it does the same thing as those other two buttons, but let’s see what it does,” said Gerig, who voted blue in the two previous presidential elections. That feeling of pessimism about a perceived Democratic-Republican duopoly was shared by many young people attending Kennedy’s stump speech at the Tabernacle on Sunday. The rally was part of a petition drive to secure Kennedy a spot on Georgia’s ballot in November. It’s not just disaffected liberals who are curious about Kennedy’s third-party campaign. Former Trump voters are also taking notice. That describes Jonathan Strader, a 31-year-old veteran who lives in Marietta. Strader, who describes himself as a libertarian, grew up attending Tea Party rallies in South Carolina with his stepfather. Strader said his decade of service in the Air Force showed him how the military-industrial complex was negatively intertwined with party politics. “It’s a vicious cycle of money fueling wars, and I don’t think this two-party system is giving us appropriate options,” he said. “And honestly, I like [Kennedy’s] message of unity.” Read the full article here. RFK Jr. Files to Create Own Party To Get on Ballot in 6 States

The New York Times reports: Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., who is running for president as an independent, announced on Tuesday that he had filed paperwork to create his own political party in six states — an effort to get his name on the ballot with fewer voter signatures than would be required for an unaffiliated candidate. Election offices in North Carolina and Hawaii confirmed that they had received the campaign’s applications for a new party, “We the People,” as did the Texas secretary of state’s office for the “Texas Independent Party.” Officials in California and Delaware did not respond to inquiries. A spokeswoman for Mississippi’s secretary of state said Mr. Kennedy’s team had contacted the office, but a filing could not be immediately confirmed because of a weather-related disruption.
